Heat pump exhibition: China's air source heat pump market is entering a golden period of rapid development

The heat pump exhibition learned that in recent years, the air source heat pump industry has shown a strong growth trend and is expected to become an important pillar in the field of new energy. In February of this year, at the Heat Pump Comfort System Technology Forum held by the China Energy Conservation Association, experts predicted that the global heat pump market will achieve significant growth in the future. By 2030, the proportion of heat pump applications in the heating field is expected to increase to 80%; By 2045, this proportion may reach or even exceed 50%. Against the backdrop of the global energy crisis, the acceleration of energy transition has driven the rapid development of the air source heat pump market. In 2022, the overseas market accounted for 62.7% of the global heat pump market, with the European market performing particularly well, with its market share increasing from 30.5% in 2021 to 39.5% in 2022. In the first three quarters of 2022 alone, the sales of air source heat pumps for heating in China reached 2.1123 million units.
Looking ahead, China's HVAC industry mainly includes household air conditioning, commercial air conditioning, and air source heat pumps. From 2016 to 2023, the compound annual growth rate of household air conditioning was 4.5%, commercial air conditioning was 9.4%, and the compound annual growth rate of air source heat pumps was as high as 15.1%. Despite the impact of economic downturn, sluggish real estate market, and the pandemic on household and commercial air conditioners, air source heat pumps have maintained a relatively stable growth momentum.
According to the Heat Pump Exhibition, in recent years, national and local governments have introduced a series of policies to support the development of air source heat pumps. For example, the "Household and Similar Use Heat Pump Water Heater" standard introduces the annual average performance factor (APF) into the air source heat pump industry for the first time, and the "14th Five Year Plan for Building Energy Conservation and Green Building Development" also encourages local promotion of the application of heat pump technology according to local conditions. These policies provide strong guarantees for the rapid development of the industry.
Although the development history of the air source water heater industry in China is only about 10 years, its development speed is remarkable. In 2020, driven by the application of green buildings and green building materials, the supporting scale of air source water heaters in the real estate decoration market reached 211000 sets, a year-on-year increase of over 70%, becoming one of the rapidly growing products in the real estate decoration market that year.
