National “Trade-In for New” Policy Accelerates the Adoption of Fresh-Air Air Conditioners
2025/04/07
With the nationwide “Trade-In for New Consumer Goods” initiative rolling out in 100 cities and generating significant momentum, home-appliance companies are gaining fresh impetus to expand in the existing-market segment. In particular, as the air-conditioner market enters its peak sales season, driven by both technological innovation from manufacturers and rising consumer demand for higher-quality products, scenario-based offerings—led by fresh-air air conditioners—are emerging as the mainstay of this round of air-conditioner upgrades.
As the pioneer and leader in fresh-air air conditioning, Hisense Air Conditioning has deeply understood the essence of the national “trade-in for new” policy: it’s not just about swapping old units for new ones—it’s about redefining a high-quality lifestyle. Taking the lead in the industry, Hisense is leveraging “champion-level quality” to spark a sweeping wave of adoption for fresh-air air conditioners. According to sources in the home-appliance sector, in response to the early surge in the 618 mid-year shopping event combined with the rollout of the national “trade-in for new” policy, Hisense Air Conditioning is once again setting itself apart in the industry with its one-of-a-kind Euro Cup–themed marketing campaign, reinforcing the message: “When it’s time to upgrade your air conditioner, choose fresh air; when you choose fresh-air air conditioning, choose Hisense.”
Trade-in for Upgrades: Hisense Air Conditioners Launch a Wave of New-Air Adoption
For the country, the new round of the “Consumer Goods Trade-In Initiative” is not only aimed at phasing out a large number of aging, overused household appliances in Chinese homes, but also at promoting the widespread adoption of new, green, low-carbon, smart, and energy-efficient products. Simply put, it seeks to drive an upgrade in Chinese households’ lifestyles.
As early as 2023, in response to and implementation of the national policy on “green and low-carbon development,” Hisense took the lead in launching the “Green Planet Renewal Initiative,” driving the green and low-carbon upgrade of its air-conditioning and other home-appliance products. To date, the company has organized more than 30,000 trade-in programs, enabling a growing number of consumers to enjoy a high-quality, green, and low-carbon lifestyle. Entering 2024, with the launch of the national “Consumer Goods Trade-In Campaign,” Hisense is once again addressing users’ pain points in appliance renewal by stepping up efforts to build a new ecosystem for green, smart, and efficient home-appliance consumption. In particular, in the air-conditioning segment, as more households seek to enhance indoor air quality—placing greater emphasis not only on heating and cooling but also on air freshness and cleanliness—Hisense is spearheading a widespread adoption of fresh-air air conditioners.
In response to national policy guidance and mainstream consumer trends, Hisense Air Conditioning has taken the lead in launching an industry-wide “trade-in” campaign centered on popularizing fresh-air systems, aiming to encourage more households to upgrade their air conditioners to models with built-in fresh-air functionality—and to cement the growing consumer preference for Hisense when it comes to fresh-air air conditioners.
On the one hand, Hisense Air Conditioning is offering a “trade-in-for-upgrade” subsidy program: consumers who purchase designated Hisense air-conditioning models can receive up to RMB 2,000 in trade-in rebates, with varying incentives and discounts available through different sales channels—all designed to ensure every customer enjoys exceptional value. On the other hand, Hisense Air Conditioning is leveraging its championship-quality standards to accelerate the widespread adoption of fresh-air systems: during the promotion, all premium Hisense air-conditioners come with a 365-day “replace-only, no repair” warranty, while all fresh-air air-conditioners are covered by a 10-year free full-machine warranty. In addition, customers can enjoy a range of “zero-cost installation” perks, including free remote delivery, free high-altitude work, free drilling fees, free bracket fees, free extended piping, and free cabinet-unit circuit-breaker installation—seven complimentary services in total—potentially saving up to RMB 3,860.
Behind Hisense Air Conditioning’s upgrade-and-trade-in subsidies and the sweeping drive to popularize fresh-air systems lies the rapid growth—and market leadership—of fresh-air air conditioners in China. According to GfK Zhongyikang’s market monitoring data, in 2023 the share of air-conditioning products featuring fresh-air ventilation and comfortable airflow continued to expand, outpacing the growth of other functional categories. Meanwhile, data from AVC Cloud Network show that in 2023 the fresh-air air-conditioner market grew by 10.4% online and 20.7% offline year on year.
Since the start of 2024, fresh-air air conditioners have once again posted steady growth and gained favor among young mainstream consumers. During the May Day sales period, the share of comfort-air fresh-air units in both online and offline markets increased by 6.42 and 3.12 percentage points, respectively, year on year. In the offline channel, the share of fresh-air air conditioners rose by 0.9 percentage points to 7.9%. The latest data show that from Week 1 to Week 19 this year, Hisense’s fresh-air air conditioners captured a commanding 46.0% market share in the offline segment, firmly holding the top spot in the industry—demonstrating its strong, well-earned leadership in the fresh-air air-conditioning category.
Champion-quality leadership, Euro Cup marketing fuels a nationwide renewal trend.
Whether it’s rolling out trade-in upgrades or launching a sweeping campaign to popularize next-generation air conditioning, Hisense Air Conditioning is taking proactive, multi-pronged action in this round—not only seizing the initiative in market competition but also addressing the very root of consumers’ desire for renewal: delivering tangible benefits through superior products, enhanced services, and richer user experiences.
In addition to leveraging the national “trade-in for new” policy to spark a sweeping wave of fresh-air system adoption, the home-appliance industry has learned that, since early May, Hisense Air Conditioning—official sponsor of the UEFA European Championship—has also launched an industry-first, exclusive Euro Cup–themed marketing campaign. The initiative is structured around three key phases: “Boiling May and Early Grab during 618,” the 618 shopping festival, and “Peak July and Champions’ Night.” Complementing these are eight generous offers, including advance deposits for exclusive perks, buy-one-get-one-free deals, free wall-mounted units with cabinet purchases, tailored Euro Cup–branded air-conditioning discounts, and special Euro Cup–themed gifts—all designed to provide more choices and greater value for families looking to upgrade to state-of-the-art fresh-air systems and enjoy healthier indoor air.
To enable more users to enjoy thrilling sports events in the sweltering summer while enjoying cool, comfortable indoor air, Hisense Air Conditioning has launched a special Euro Cup–themed air-conditioning package: “Buy a Euro Cup–customized cabinet unit and receive a complimentary fresh-air wall-mounted unit for an additional RMB 999,” plus “up to RMB 1,400 off the Euro Cup–customized cabinet-and-wall-unit bundle,” along with other exciting perks such as exclusive Euro Cup merchandise. By seamlessly blending the excitement of the Euro Cup with the health-promoting benefits of fresh-air technology, Hisense aims to help more families embrace a higher-quality, healthier lifestyle ahead of time.
From its early days as a “variable-frequency expert” to its current position as a “fresh-air leader,” Hisense Air Conditioning, as an industry pioneer, has remained steadfast in its commitment to fulfilling consumers’ aspirations for a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. By focusing on the fresh-air segment and leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as oxygen enrichment, antibacterial filtration, gentle airflow, and AI-driven smart control, Hisense now enables households to recreate the refreshing, pristine air quality of a natural “oxygen bar.”
In January of this year, the project “Research and Industrialization of Comfort Air Conditioners Featuring Intelligent Temperature–Humidity Separate Control and Multi-Scenario Air Distribution Technology,” jointly developed by Hisense Air Conditioning, Tsinghua University, and Zhejiang University, was awarded the First Prize of the 2023 Light Industry Federation Science and Technology Progress Award. In April of this year, the first industry standard for fresh-air air conditioners—led by Hisense Air Conditioning—was released and came into effect in October, marking a significant leap from corporate technological achievements to industry-standard specifications and further solidifying Hisense’s leadership in advancing fresh-air technology and promoting the widespread adoption of fresh-air air conditioners.
It is foreseeable that, driven by the national “trade-in” policy and bolstered by Euro Cup marketing, this summer will see a nationwide wave of air-conditioner replacements, with Haier Air Conditioning continuing to lead this consumer trend and shape the direction of industry development.
